University of Colorado

CU (colorado.edu) is located in beautiful Boulder Colorado. The campus can be found at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, which allows students to participate in a variety of recreational activities on and off campus. The Leeds School of Business and College of Engineering and Applied Science are both very highly rated, and are considered by many to be among the best for public universities. CU is a world-renowned graduate research university and employs four Nobel laureates. 31,000 students will attend CU this Fall, and enrollment continues to increase with time. Students at CU take great pride in the athletic program, although many of the teams competing in the Big-12 conference are experiencing rebuilding periods. I have absolutely loved my time at CU and am very grateful for the education and personal growth I have experienced while attending. Go Buffs!

Best Day of Work. Ever.

Thursday I had the opportunity to go to a broker event at Coors Field (where the Colorado Rockies play) put on by Delta Dental. The event started out with a presentation about the difference between their PPO and their Premier networks. They then put together a spoof of almost every baseball movie ever made with a Delta Dental twist which they showed on the big screen above the scoreboard. My favorite part of the event was the raffle, where I won a $100 gift certificate for Rockies tickets and a $100 gift card to The Chop House. It was a great opportunity to network and meet people from Delta.

Finalist Presentation

I had the opportunity to attend a finalist presentation this week and saw some of the presentation skills we learned in Itasca being used in the real world. Basically, two carriers were competing for the client’s business for life and AD&D. The client was leaning one way before the presentation, but their presentation was so terrible that the client decided to go with the other carrier at the end of the meeting. The gentleman presenting seemed extremely nervous and could not answer questions to save his life. I knew presentation skills were important, but it was very interesting to watch someone lose an account based on that alone.
