Sacramento Office

Located in the middle of Sacramento ghetto, our office, like somebody once called it, reminds me of a community apartment or dormitory. You always know if someone sneezes at the end of the hall, brings donuts, or pretends to sleep behind the computer screen. Like in every dorm, no one likes to do the dishes, everyone complains about the room temperature, and supports a sport team that seems to never be able to win a game. Nevertheless, everyone seems to be obsessed with either kids, dogs, or food; sometimes even all of these at the same time.

We LOVE to work as much as we love to play, hug our clients as we do our friends, and treat them as part of our own family. We learn our news from Youtube, discuss it through YahooIM, and interpret it into the PDC (Performance Driven Culture). Also, little things make us happy. It doesn’t matter if it’s a thank you email from one of the clients, a scheduled marketing appointment for a group of 2 lives, a Jelly Belly jar on Kelly’s desk, or a recited quote from the Anchorman or the Office.

The sad thing is that the more comfortable I feel myself around here, the more I realize I’m going to miss this place with all the characters who work here:

Craig: Brain-man

Dale: Big Daddy

Simon: Swashbuckle

Kelly: Mama Mia

Megan: Mega Prega

John B: Rip Van Winkle

Jon P: Pyle of DJ

Corrine: Rin-Run

Renee: Big Mama

Lee: The Lady Babe

Debby: The banker

Tracie: Two shoes

Vinny: The big V

Sherida: Fitness fanatic

Rob: Hot shot

Lisa & Cindy: The twins

4th of July

I will try to make this a short post just because there were already many great weekends that people described here.  I went to San Francisco for the 4th with a plan to hang out with my friends in a cooler weather than back in Sacramento (especially with all the fires and smoke going on right now), go out to dinner and, of course, watch the Pier 39 fireworks. Well, when we got there at around 12:30, we saw many people walking along the piers towards the Giants stadium with posters “Beat L.A.” and we assumed there was a game going on that day. After a minute of deliberation we rushed to make it to a 1:00pm game and we did. This was a lot of fun after all, the Giants lost but it was a great game and I had a blast since it was my first ball game as well. After the game we all went out for dinner and watched the fireworks in the fog, as Monica already mentioned in her post. After all, this was a fun and memorable day!

Have fun,

Everyday life at Sacramento GBS

Hi everyone, I’ve decided to share some of my daily responsibilities with you as well. Like most of you probably already have, I’ve gone on several meetings with the clients and a prospect last week, started some of the ongoing database projects involving benefitpoint; and soon will be introduced to the marketing project, which will be worked into a seminar in August. I don’t know if I have already mentioned this before, but Sacramento office does not concentrate on niches like most of the Gallagher branches. Here we deal with a variety of smaller groups, which allows for a lot of diversity in services and issues. Besides daily tasks, I get exposed to different proposals (medical, dental, vision, LTD, STD, life), learn how they are put together and how a little change in a plan can affect our ability to help a client in their particular problems.

Moreover, everyone in Sacramento office is very nice and helpful. I feel welcomed and happy to be at work every day.

Well, I hope ya all have a nice 4th of July weekend :-)

Training in Itasca

This was indeed a well-organized and thought-out program where interns got to meet, network and learn a lot about different service areas of AJG. Throughout the week we were introduced to a variety of sales and support services of PNC, RMS, GBS and other areas of expertise. The presentations were daily from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, where some were presented to interns targeting their specific line of business. The speakers were all very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the business and their jobs. We also had an opportunity to meet some top executives and listen to their presentations.

I was lucky to meet some great people including my roommate, with who we organized our 4 visits of Chicago downtown area. There were also several planned activities that were provided by the coordinators. One of the nights we all went to Dave & Busters for dinner and games.

Again, this was a fun, very well-planned, and informative trip where all the interns got to meet and network, and hopefully build long-term business relationships and friends.

Sunday, June 15

Good idea, Hugh. We’ll just plan on meeting at 6:50 to 7:00 outside the Lilac Room and grab a dinner after.
